Notice is hereby given that the second and final public hearing regarding North East Borough’s 2020 CDBG-COVID program will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 31, 2020 at the North East Borough Municipal Building, 31 West Main Street, North East, PA 16428.
The purpose of the hearing is to provide information on what activities the Borough proposes to undertake with its special allocation of CDBG-COVID funds which totals $61,503 and to take comments. Based upon a public needs hearing (First Public Hearing) held on June 17, 2020 and subsequent discussions with municipal officials, the Borough proposes that the CDBG-COVID funds be used for the following:
- $59,658 – Meals on Wheels Erie/COVID-19 Food Assistance Project – Funding will be provided to “Meals on Wheels Erie” to have meals prepared and delivered to approximately fifteen (15) homebound, disabled persons in the Borough for a period of approximately two (2) years.
- $1,845 – Program Administration – Funds will be set aside for the management, coordination and oversight of the Borough’s CDBG-COVID program to be provided by County Planning.
The application requesting the $61,503 in CDBG-COVID funding must be submitted to DCED no later than August 31, 2020. The deadline was extended from the original date of July 31, 2020.
All interested persons are encouraged to attend the hearing. Those who are unable to attend but would like to comment, may do so by writing to the Erie County Department of Planning (ECDP), 150 East Front Street, Suite 300, Erie, PA 16507 /or e-mail: jberdis@eriecountypa.gov. Comments will be accepted until 9:00 AM the day of the hearing. The Municipal Building and meeting room where the hearing will be conducted is handicapped accessible. Persons with a disability who wish to attend the hearing and require an auxiliary aid, service, or other accommodation to participate should contact should notify/contact Nancy Anderson, Administrative Assistant at 725-8611 at least 48 hours prior to the hearing to discuss how the Borough may best accommodate their needs. Due to COVID 19 a mask will be required for anyone entering the building and social distancing will be maintained.
A Resolution approving the application for CDBG-COVID assistance is anticipated to be passed by Borough Council at its meeting of August 3, 2020.
