The North East Community Marina Authority held a special meeting Saturday in its continuing efforts to quickly take care of the many startup issues they are facing. It was reported the PA Fish and Boat Commission is still dealing with legal issues that need to be resolved before the authority can move forward with work at the marina.
The authority will immediately be searching for a solicitor since many of the items discussed at the meeting need the advice of legal counsel before decisions can be made.
The authority decided on a domain name which they’ll reveal as soon as it is registered to establish an informational website and contact email addresses for members. They will also obtain a PO Box this coming Tuesday for physical documents and mailings. Both the domain name and PO Box address will be posted on North East PA Online as soon they are available.
There was considerable discussion on the matter of contributions to help the authority with hiring a solicitor as well as paying for the various expenses the authority will incur. The question arose over whether those contributions, if not used beforehand, might be converted to pre-payments for slips when they become available. Kara Haas, authority treasurer, explained that, as she understands it, contributions to the authority as a government entity would be tax deductible, but if there was any connection to value received in the form of a slip, then it would not be. She also emphasized she was not giving tax advice and many questions surrounding this issue will be addressed with the authority solicitor, when that person is hired.
The meeting schedule was set as 9 AM on the third Saturday of the month.
Next meeting, Saturday, June 15th, 9AM at the Ridge Bldg on the Mellon Heritage Veterans Center Campus.
Contact information: Authority domain name and website address, authority member email addresses and PO Box for physical mail will be posted on this website as soon as they are available.
