During Wednesday’s North East Community Marina board meeting, board Chairman Eric Urbanowicz announced he was stepping down within the next couple of weeks due to a recent health issue. This is the second vacancy on the board since its inception. Kara Haas who recently resigned, was replaced by Micheal Dunlavey who attended his first meeting Wednesday. Then, at the end of the meeting, Urbanowicz announced his imminent departure. North East Borough Council will once again have to name a replacement. Potential applicants should send a letter of intent with a brief description of their background to the borough.
During the meeting there was considerable discussion of plans for the upcoming year, but there was also a recognition that the biggest issue yet to be resolved is that of sand dredging and replacement. As noted here in previous articles, this requires a solution agreeable to the DEP, the Fish and Boat Commission and the Army Corps of Engineers, but to this point, no agreement has been reached.
Everyone was aware this was going to be difficult, but over and above the work necessary to keep the marina in operation, the various government agencies appear to be working against its success.
We will report any further developments as they occur.
