The initial meeting of the North East Community Marina Authority was held Saturday morning at the Mellon Heritage Veterans Outreach & Wellness Center. The meeting was called to order by Amber Belson, NE Borough Council President who called for the election of the authority chairman. Members elected Eric Urbanowicz to the position, after which the meeting was immediately turned over to him. The authority then completed the election of officers:
Eric Urbanowicz, Chairman
Amy Burniston, Vice chairman
Kara Haas, Treasurer
Ed Mascharka, Secretary
A Draft of By-Laws was presented to the authority members for their review and Dan Adamus, working with the group headed by Representative Jake Banta, presented a Draft Option and Limited License Agreement from the PA Fish and Boat Commission which will begin the process of allowing the authority to interact with the commission. These will both be reviewed and voted on at the next meeting.
The authority will be deciding on the formation of a non-profit under which it will be able to operate and accept funds. The authority is looking for volunteers for any projects as they arise and for any community members interested in supporting the marina, but it does not yet have any authority to do any work at the marina, until the Commonwealth responds.
The meeting was very well attended reflecting the high level of community interest. The next meeting date has not yet been determined as much is dependent upon the response from the state.
Dates and times for upcoming meetings and contact information for the authority will be provided as soon as they are available.
