Everyone in North East has probably heard about the drastic step proposed by the Erie School District to deal with their budget deficit, shut down all four high schools and send the students to schools in outlying areas. The proposal was meant to garner attention as much as anything, but it brings to light the massive financial problems all public schools are facing. Much of the issue is caused by unfunded state pension liabilities and combined with Governor Wolf distributing funds to districts in a rather haphazard manner, the schools are left scrambling for cash. Parents should realize, it’s time to take action to make sure your child gets the education he or she needs and students need to know, they can make sure they’re prepared for the future by using online resources, especially the Khan Academy.
There is a new article over at Erie County Report that goes into considerable detail along with a great video that explains how it all started. If you’re concerned about your child’s education, take the time to check it out. You’ll be glad you did.
