From PennDOT:
In the interest of public safety, the bridge that carries Route 20 over Twenty Mile Creek in North East Township, Erie County was closed today due to deterioration and structural concerns.
The bridge is located between Gay Road and Gulf Road in North East Township near the New York state line.
The closure was prompted by information gathered during a design analysis of the structure. Additional analysis will be done as the design team develops plans for repairing the bridge. A contract for rehabilitating the bridge is tentatively scheduled to be awarded in fall 2024 with work expected to take place in 2025.
A temporary detour will be posted using Interstate 90 and Shortman Road in New York. Plans for a long-term detour are being developed and will be announced once they are complete.
The bridge was built in 1973 and is used by approximately 2,500 vehicles a day, on average.
