There appears to be no confirmation of a news report from a local television station stating the boat slips at the North East Marina will be permanently closed at the end of the 2023 boating season.
After speaking directly with Representative Jake Banta, State Senator Dan Laughlin’s office and North East Township officials, we can state that there have been and still are ongoing discussions about the marina, but no definite decisions have been made.
All of the problems previously reported at the public meeting, the lack of electrical service, the need to dredge the marina along with requirements from the PA Department of Environmental Protection as well as the associated costs involved are all problems that still exist, but again, there have been no decisions made about closure of any parts of the marina.
Dan Lindsey says
This marina is too important to allow it to be closed. It brings millions of dollars in the area economy fisherman bring there wives to eat in local restaurants and shop in local wineries. What happens when there are hundreds of boats fishing in our area and a major storm hits. What are these boaters going to do.. we need to do all we can to keep this great asset open.
Kevin Chesley says
I agree with Dan. There are many loyal slip owners who kept their boats in the marina for many years. Me for one. Where are we going to keep our boats if they close. The marina is close for all North East boaters. What other options are there? The marina has survived though the worst weather. Compared to the beach front properties. I personally think the state can afford to keep it open..
