Mellon Heritage Foundation Buying Entire Mercyhurst Campus for Veterans Outreach and Wellness Center

Mellon Heritage Foundation to purchase entire former Mercyhurst campus

Richard Mellon of the Mellon Heritage Foundation has reached an agreement to purchase the entire former Mercyhurst North East Campus, now Granite Ridge, turning the buildings into a Veterans Outreach and Wellness Center. He was searching for something to adequately honor his father, Captain Edward Mellon, a WWII pilot and his father in-law Private William H. Knight, when he found out by chance through a friend the campus was for sale.

In a story on Erie News Now, Mellon said he knew immediately this was the answer he was looking for. He wants a place to supplement the support and treatment veterans receive at the VA hospital. He says it will be something veterans will have forever. The plan has the backing of the Erie VA.

The sale price was not disclosed, but he said there is no limit to what he and his wife are willing to invest in their dream.

This is one of the best possible outcomes we could have imagined for this property. Mellon said the deal should close within 30 days and he is planning to tour the facility on November 30th.

    • It’s important to distinguish foundations, there are multiple foundations with the name Mellon. The Mellon Foundation as usually referred to by many, is a separate organization and not this one. The Mellon Heritage Foundation is the one associated with M.Richard Mellon, the man involved here, who is the CEO.
