NE Borough, Township and School District Candidate Nomination Petitions for 2025 Municipal Primary Election

The list of candidates for public office in the upcoming 2025 municipal primary election, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, who have filed nomination petitions that have been accepted is listed below. March 18th is the last day for anyone to file an objection to a candidate’s petition, March 19th lots will be drawn to determine ballot position and March 26th is the last day a candidate can withdraw their name from the ballot if they desire to do so. Winning candidates from the primary will advance to the general election in November.

North East School District

The long list of candidates for school director reflects the growing interest in the many important and sometimes controversial issues being discussed in the district. There are eight potential candidates for the four open positions on the board.

All candidates for school director, except for Neil McCord, have cross filed and will be listed on both Democrat and Republican ballots. McCord will be on the Republican ballot only.

  1. Everyone has the right to know what their government is doing.
  2. Transparency is expected in all government meetings and daily operations.
  3. Everyone working in the government works for, and is answerable to, you and me.
  4. All laws, regulations, ordinances, budgets, audits and other public records should be freely available, preferably online, for citizens to examine without special fees and paperwork before they can do so.
  5. When municipalities seek bids for contract work, all bid documents should be available online, free of charge. Printed copies, if requested, should be offered at cost.
  6. Agendas should be posted online a minimum of 3 days before public meetings take place allowing interested citizens an opportunity to hear discussions and offer input on matters important to them.


Comments

  1. Regarding the schoolboard candidates. I only know three by name, but of course that’s not a reason to vote for them.

    I would suggest, hope that all candidates submit a resume to the press detailing their educational experience, their work experience and reasons for seeking the very important job of overseeing the education of kids while guarding our tax dollars.

    It would be even better, on the JNE Journal’s part, if each candidate was asked the same questions, and their responses published.
