This Friday, October 25th, 2024, the Mellon Heritage Foundation will have their first “Lunch and Learn” speaker, Scott Stewart. If Scott is any indication of the kinds of speakers we can expect, this should be a very interesting series and time well spent. As noted below, Scott has an extensive background in terrorism and security topics and protective intelligence. Veterans and their guests are welcome to gather with fellow vets for lunch and to hear what should be a fascinating talk.
Press release follows:
The Mellon Heritage Foundation will be offering the first of its “Lunch & Learn” speaker series on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Ridge Building aboard the Mellon Veterans Outreach Campus (MVOC™). (This was formerly the Ridge Health and Safety Building on the Mercyhurst North East Campus.)
Each month, MVOC will be hosting an opportunity for area Veterans to gather for food, fellowship and a chance to hear a speaker deliver a presentation on an interesting and relevant topic.
All Veterans and their guests are invited to lunch at 11:30 a.m. At Noon, Scott Stewart, Vice President of Intelligence, for Torchstone, a leading provider of individual & corporate security and risk management services will be speaking on the subject of Hybrid Warfare.
According to NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) hybrid threats combine military and non-military as well as covert and overt means, including disinformation, cyberattacks, economic pressure, deployment of irregular armed groups and use of regular forces. Hybrid methods are used to blur the lines between war and peace, attempting to sow doubt in the minds of target populations. They aim to destabilize and undermine societies.
Scott Stewart is a seasoned protective intelligence practitioner with over 38 years of analytical, investigative and security experience. He led Stratfor’s global analysis of terrorism and security topics from 2004 to 2020. He was also a special agent with the U.S. State Department from 1988-98 and was involved in hundreds of terrorism and protective intelligence investigations. Scott also served as the protective intelligence coordinator for Dell from 1998-2004.
Scott is regularly featured in leading media outlets, was one of the DSS Special Agents profiled in the book “Relentless Pursuit: The DSS and the Manhunt for the Al-Qaeda Terrorists,” and was also one of the investigators featured in the Fox Nation series “The Rising Crescent.
As part of its mission which includes Support and Services for Veterans and First Responders, Youth Athletic Programs and Community Stewardship, the Mellon Heritage Foundation would like to extend an invitation to members of the community who may have an interest in learning about this interesting and important topic.
