The North East football team will be playing their home opener on August 23rd at Iroquois instead of Ted Miller Stadium. The construction project to install plastic grass was scheduled to be complete in time for the opener, but is behind schedule due to unspecified construction delays.
A story on GoErie states the paper was informed of the change after receiving an email from North East Athletic Director, Brian Dewey. The next game scheduled at home is on September 12th and whether it will happen here or at another location depends on how soon Keystone Sports Construction can finish the installation. It would be interesting to know if the school district, when negotiating the contract, included any penalties to be incurred if the project was not completed on time.
The Union City, Northwestern and Girard School districts still have natural grass on their athletic fields.

I wonder how well NE School board investigated artificial turf before they decided to jump into it? There has been clear issues over increased injuries for several years now. Are we now going to have new lawsuits over injuries that we know will increase? Was this a project that was really that necessary? I will be the first to say the track needed a new surface, but our district reminds me of those Hollywood types that don’t have any limits to their wants, while we taxpayers keep paying too much for their desires.

So glad we wasted money on a new stadium turf instead of investing in our teachers or education programs, because football *really* matters in adult life after high school.

The current construction is looking nice but Keystone Sports Construction should have more personnel on site for a project of this magnitude. On 8/14/23 I observed one guy (just one guy) on a track skid steer pushing and leveling the sand on the field in preparation for artificial turf. No wonder it’s behind schedule. I’ve made similar observations with fencing and lighting. I too hope the school district has penalties in the contract for construction delays..
