There is no reason for any tax increase! State audit a year or so ago found 12 million in a reserve. So how much is it worth now? I’m sure with interest it’s alot more While the tax payers continues to struggle in this crappy economy. Monies being spent on this “shiny object” aka astro turf field , need to be spent elsewhere. Our board needs to remember that Educating the next generation is it’s top priority.
Concerned in NE says
Agree … our kids are “student athletes”. Money needs to be on the student FIRST…behind excelling students are great teachers and staff….why does administration always pinch the teachers first when trying to balance a budget, yet don’t blink at change orders over 100K for the turf project or continue to get “bonuses” and nice raises for themselves…??? These bonuses seem to be well hidden from public view….
Our board needs to be united in getting priorities back in check so our district can get back to where it was 10 + years ago.
This should bother anyone who owns a home in NE. Athletics cannot trump academics…. When we go to sell our homes we need an ACADEMICALLY high performing school district to appeal to families! This isn’t just an issue for families currently in school, but should be a consideration for every taxpayer regardless of your age!
America First says
Agree. We need to go over administration costs to us. Our district has more tax payers dollars going to admin. Teachers should never get cuts in pay unless they are not performing up to standards.
Ted Jones says
Current cash reserve is 10+ million.
Taxpaying Citizen says
It’s disappointing that our school board does not insist on a balanced budget. Raising taxes every year would not be necessary if they were fiscally responsible. The school board states that the 3.5 million dollars was set aside for the turf field and track project, it’s still taxpayer money! In a few years when the field needs to be redone because of injuries and/or pollution problems the taxpayers will be asked (told) to pay up again.
America First says
Residents need to start coming to the meetings. Board has become used to not being challenged by those who put them in that office. Remember they work for us,not the other way around

They state that the exorbitant increase is because homeschooling pupils are receiving the same amount of monies per child the district gets per child, they want half of those monies back. However at no point have I seen the actual number of pupils the district lost to homeschooling this year or the past few years for that matter, with those numbers we can figure out actual amounts lost. And the forecast is the school district will be losing pupils over the next few years to families moving from the district. The district needs to adjust to ever decreasing enrollment and not increasing the budget with unabashed spending every year.

Feel the need to just clarify terminology…
true “homeschooling” students do not get any financial help from the school. We pay school taxes and on top of that purchase all curriculum. and oversee its instruction, have to purchase all electronics etc….
it’s PA law that our kids can participate in sports, band, extracurricular activities etc…. And I’ll be honest that we have always been treated respectfully and had NO issues doing things school related. NE has supported us in our homeschooling journey…
The issue the school district has is “cyber” school students… the school has to pay “X” dollars per student (thinking it about 12k) even with them not enrolled in NE. These kids do online instruction under the supervision of other teachers…
It’s a personal choice what a family decides when it comes to homeschooling or cyber school but that’s a different topic!
Thats a quick synopsis of the differences, but maybe someone elaborate more!

Hello friends. I have no kids so I never paid much attention to what school boards do until I watched them mandate items like masks and the propaganda that went with the mandates. All pushed by the state education system. So I started paying attention to these folks that were knowingly or unknowingly putting forth mandates that were harmful. Speech problems for kiddos, fear based mental problems exist still today from these mandates. Now we have to pay for a new sporting venue while the students fall further behind in studies. Even the local grocery store never took down the plastic barriers. Coincidence or collusion ? What is said in the closed door meetings? Seems like a break in the oath of office possibly and they all must keep oath of office on file, along with a surety bond/liability insurance. It is sad that those with the knowledge and means can’t or won’t get involved. Follow the money. ein numbers. Who is getting paid? Where is the money going?

I didn’t mention this because it is a bit off topic but all schools did similar things. Opinion published by ninth circuit of appeals on 7 June 2024.
