After many months of requests, the upcoming meeting agenda for the North East Township supervisors is now online, prior to the day of the meeting. Anyone interested in attending can now see what will be discussed before actually arriving at the township building.
Supervisors were reluctant to do this because they wanted to allow late additions and changes to the agenda and were concerned there might be legal liability if an item was added after it was posted online and someone raised the issue. At the last meeting supervisors promised to begin placing the agenda on the township website, but stated they had to agree on what verbiage would be added to notify residents the posted agenda was not necessarily the final version, though we didn’t find any notice of that sort either on the agenda or on the township website.
Our position has always been that the residents need to know what will be discussed beforehand so they can make arrangements to attend if an issue important to them is scheduled before the board. It’s great to see the agenda online and we hope residents will use this as an opportunity to be a part their community’s decision making process.
