North East Township and North East Borough are holding a public meeting asking for your input for an update of the North East Area Comprehensive Plan. This was brought to my attention by a local resident who saw an article on Erie News Now.
The meeting is scheduled for June 22 at 6 p.m. at Heard Memorial Park on N. Lake St, with a rain date of June 29th.
It surprised me when I read the article because there is nothing on either the township or borough websites and there was no public notice posted in the usual channels that I’m aware of. The person who brought this to my attention said she had not seen anything in the North East News Journal and I didn’t either. The Erie County Department of Planning and Community Development is facilitating the process according to the article, but there’s nothing on their website that I could find. For a public meeting looking for input, it doesn’t look like they are trying very hard to inform the public.
The current comprehensive plan is quite old and is due for an update and it’s very important for residents, business owners and community leaders to be aware of what could be changed or added and for everyone to voice their opinion. Meetings like this one are a chance for you to see what the plan involves and it provides you with an opportunity to be heard. The whole process is expected to take a year to complete.
If you’re interested in the future direction of North East, come to the meeting and see what’s in store and offer your ideas.
UPDATE:
Well, it looks like we got some attention.
Here’s the flyer announcing the meeting.
