If you, like many of us in North East, had problems with Waste Management recently and for those of you who still do, there have been some developments. It appears the company is planning to eliminate about 5000 jobs through automation by 2026. Many positions have a high attrition rate, like the guy on the back of the truck, and the plan is to not replace them if they leave. That explains a lot.
“WM is increasing the use of technology and automation which will reduce labor dependency for roles that are challenging to recruit and retain across North America,” according to a statement from the company. “Technology is helping us mitigate the business risk associated with high attrition rates for these roles — a challenge not only for WM but for the industry at large.
When this sort of policy is in place, it’s probably even harder to get someone to work for a company in the first place or to remain there if you know you’re about to be automated.
Just an FYI.
