Did you know the North East School District promotes DEI, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion? The highlighted text above comes from the school district’s comprehensive plan, right up front on page 2. DEI programs are being struck down all across the country in organizations of all kinds, including the Department of Education and for good reason. Anywhere DEI is pushed forward, merit, excellence, knowledge and ability are pushed back.
Equality and equity are opposites!
The words equality and equity sound similar and many assume they mean the same thing, but they are polar opposites.
Equality means everyone gets an opportunity to participate and stands on equal footing and is free to compete with anyone else. It’s equal opportunity.
Equity means who can participate is based on some uncontrollable quality like skin color or sex, promoting these people instead of those people. It’s government mandated discrimination.
DEI means hiring or promotion is not about finding the best person, it means rejecting qualified people until the “right” candidate is found.
The school district contradicts itself
A few pages later on page 5, right after promoting DEI, the plan states “The North East School District will continue to employ a rigorous selection and hiring process in order to provide the students of this community with the best instructors.” That’s in direct conflict with DEI. Diversity, equity and inclusion is not about rigorous selection and hiring the best candidates, it’s about finding the right kind of candidates by race or sex. So which statement is true?
President Trump is ending DEI programs
President Trump signed an executive order to rid the government of DEI programs. The district can eliminate this comprehensive plan confusion by following the president’s lead ending DEI.
North East schools should promote true equal opportunity and merit and reject DEI
The North East School District can fix this quickly and easily. A statement can be written and introduced clearly stating the district will no longer follow DEI policies and procedures, the language can be removed from the comprehensive plan and voted on by the school board at the next board meeting on February 6th.
If education is the goal, DEI is wrong. If it remains, everyone in the district falls under a cloud. Who was hired or promoted on merit and who on the basis of sex, race or ethnic origin? It sets a terrible example for the students.
Let’s refocus on education and reward merit. Let’s get rid of DEI.

Framework for SEL in NESD. What’s going to happen to this curriculum and positions that support it?
Paul Crowe says
SEL is another huge problem. It’s one of those things that sounds so benign, yet no one ever digs into it to see where it comes from and what CASEL is trying to promote.

The North East School District needs to move away from all this “Woke” nonsense. I thank God I retired, as a teacher, before these ridiculous things started. Administrators and School Board members who allowed woke ideology into our schools need consequences for their actions to promote it. It’s unbelievable that this district was going to allow trans males into girl’s bathrooms and locker rooms! Thank God that morality and common sense are returning.

What’s going to happen to Safe spaces and these mysterious teachers that were given permission from NESD to hand out resources to our children regarding “gender identity” confusion. How many parents knew this was happening? Check out the date of the letter … since 2021!

Interesting letter!

When the recent Title IX discussion was taking place, one of the worries voiced from members of the board was about losing federal funding if they did not accept the 2024 policy. Is losing federal funding now going to be a worry over this new executive order?
JM says
Good article. It’s about time that DEI is looked into and hopefully citizens will realize what all is involved. Very first priority is the education and safety of our students and that parents (taxpayers) have the higher authority of their own children with concern over curriculum being our business..
America First says
This is a prime opportunity for the board to get proactive. It’s time to get rid of this DEI Woke Crap out of our schools! These policies need to have the wording updated . But Alas I’m afraid nothing will get done until their Federal Funding is threatened. We as tax paying citizens need to show up and peacefully demand it’s removal

Not everyone feels the same way about this topic. If you want to drag the country back 40 years then this is your issue, at least one of them. I’d rather see our country continue to move forward. We all live on the same planet and we all come from the same gene pool. The sooner people understand this and accept it, the sooner we just might increase the chances of the survival of the human race on this planet. https://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/dei-bans-at-colleges-what-students-should-know

Please explain.

I know very little on this subject other than the issues with Title 9. If the district accepts the Trump proposal what would be changed or eliminated?
