Representatives of both Granite Ridge and Erie County have scheduled a meeting with members of the North East community on May 11th at 6PM in the former Ridge library. This location should provide plenty of room for everyone in what will likely be a very well attended meeting. They’re assuming there is sufficient room, but the location may change.
This is our opportunity to ask questions and get answers from the individuals responsible for making decisions about what happens at Granite Ridge. There was a lot of frustration at the township and borough meetings because no real information was available, this meeting, hopefully will clear the air.
Everyone is concerned about the massive implications of housing illegal immigrants in a detention center in North East. This will be a chance to get beyond the hearsay and find out what’s really going on. Mark your calendar and show up!

This will not help our community in any way. I understand federal funds will be received but we cannot sell out our town. What happens when the 17 year olds are not reunited and turn 18? They will be released. These children are not like our children raised here. Probably most of them are in gangs or affiliated with gangs or even owe the child traffickers that got them here. You were elected to uphold what the PEOPLE want, not what you want personally and I believe the people have spoken!!! Do what is right!!! Do not let this happen to our beautiful town. It will NEVER be the same.
Dr. John Dudzinski says
This is not an appropriate location for a detention center. Right in the heart of our small town and in extremely close proximity to our schools is a potential disaster waiting to happen. This will, in no way, benefit the people of our community. Granite Ridge and its owners are not members of this community and could clearly care less about what is good for the citizens of North East. As a business owner and employer in the borough and a resident of the township I am steadfastly against this plan. Perhaps a military base would be a better location for this type of center.

It’s getting federal and probably State funding. If that is the case than it is cut and dried and they won’t listen to any of us! Granite Ridge’s NEW owners could care less what happens in Our beautiful small town. The thought of even housing these kids is NUTS. But again $$$$$$ TALKS. Put them at a Military base that is owned by China. If we had the $$$$$$ we could send them all to Martha’s Vineyard. Or better yet put them all in the parking garage under the White House like they did with our Military! The Biden administration is using these kids as pawns. and they do not care what happens to anybody that is coming over into our borders. Why can’t they set up something like Ellis Island back in the day?
