The Erie Times is reporting that LECOM has requested tax exemption for three nursing homes, the Regency at South Shore, 322 Washington Place, Erie, purchased for $7.9 million; Parkside at Westminster, 3929 W. 38th St., Millcreek Township, for $4.3 million; and Parkside at North East, 2 Gibson St., North East, for $3.5 million.
The Erie School District has accepted the offer of a $2.25 million grant covering a period of eight years. No other taxing authorities have made any agreements with LECOM.
Giving tax exempt status to a taxable property of this size in a community like North East would have a noticeable effect. We’ll post more information on this as it becomes available.

Parkside is not for low income people. LECOM is paid well by the people who live there.
Why should it be Tax Exempt???
Vicki Stetson says
Parkside is certainly not a charitable operation. Residents pay very well to live there. We can’t let these large corporations chip away at out tax base. Places like Parkside utilize the same community services we all do and should pay their fair share of the costs.
