The PA Senate has passed Senate Bill 1293 in a 30 to 17 vote, that keeps men from participating in female sports in public schools and institutions of higher learning. Male and female is determined biologically at the time of birth. Senate Bill 9 was similar and passed in 2025 with bipartisan support, but house Democrats delayed passage.
It’s simple and easy to understand
“Sex.” A person’s immutable characteristics of the reproductive system that define the individual as male or female, as determined by anatomy and genetics existing at thetime of birth.
Section 3. Designation of athletic teams and sports.
Interscholastic, intercollegiate, intramural or club athletic teams or sports that are sponsored by a public school entity, a public institution of higher education or any school or institution where students or teams compete against a public school entity or public institution of higher education must be expressly designated as one of the following based on sex:
(1) Male, men or boys.
(2) Female, women or girls.
(3) Coed or mixed.
(b) Prohibition.–Athletic teams or sports designated for females, women or girls under subsection (a)(2) may not be open to students of the male sex.
It’s truly unfortunate that a bill like this should even be necessary. It’s one of those 80/20 or even 90/10 issues where the majority of Americans support this protection for our female athletes. Resistance from the Democrats makes no sense. Let’s hope rational minds prevail and it passes through the house and is signed by the governor.
