
The Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 Big Boy 4014 has completed the western leg of the 2026 coast to coast tour. It’s now back in Cheyenne, Wyoming for a month of maintenance (Steam engines have a LOT of moving parts!) before beginning the eastern leg of the tour beginning May 25th. Assuming no problems are encountered in the check out, the 4014 will be headed our way. The schedule has not yet been updated with specific dates, but those should be coming very soon.

Lots of steam engine activities this year

Norfolk and Western 611, a beautiful streamlined steam engine, which has passed through North East before, will be running excursions in Virginia near Washington, D.C. in June and early July. This is part of the Summer of Steam. Virginia isn’t far and area railfans may want to plan a trip. Check out the details here.
