Harborcreek Township Adopts Resolution Seeking Immediate Reopening of Erie County

May 21, 2020 by Paul Crowe 2 Comments

Harborcreek supervisors adopted a resolution seeking an immediate reopening of Erie County.

The resolution states:

Erie County residents currently have a .0004% chance of contracting the Covid 19 virus, including a .024% mortality rate for those that have contracted the virus and a .000007 mortality rate for all of Erie County

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf ordered all “non-life sustaining businesses” to close with a vague and confusing list of criteria to be considered essential despite Erie County being currently labeled in the “yellow” phase for reopening, there are little or no known criteria for the arbitrary and subjective nature of progressing to the “green

supervisors … call upon the Erie County Executive to lobby for, and the PA Governor to grant, an immediate full and complete opening of all Harborcreek Township businesses who wish to do so.

According to an article on GoErie, our county executive claims she can’t, or chooses not to, do anything:

Dahlkemper said Wednesday it is not her decision to move the county into the green phase and allow all businesses to open.

“It’s not up to the county. The order is from the state, the governor,” Dahlkemper said. “We are following the guidelines … and waiting for the governor.”

It would be nice if the county executive stood up for Erie County residents and businesses, but she has chosen to stand down, instead.

Of course, our county executive DOES stand up for some residents of Erie County, in April, the county released 150 inmates from Erie County Prison because … coronavirus. There were no cases of the virus in the prison, but they were released anyway. At the time, most businesses and law abiding citizens remained locked down or restricted and many of those restrictions remain in place, today. What exactly are her priorities? What are the governor’s?

North East PA Online fully supports Harborcreek’s resolution and we support any and all similar efforts by North East Township and North East Borough.

Let’s get back to work!

Did you read the article above? Did you look at the numbers? Erie County has approximately 270,000 residents, we’ve had 3 deaths from COVID-19. Is that worth shutting down businesses, some that will never reopen, along with schools and putting thousands of people out of work and increasing poverty in the county?

We have new cases, not new deaths and new cases are what you find when you increase testing. More cases and no new deaths also means the fatality rate for the virus is lower than before and it was already extremely low, States like Georgia that recently reopened and where enormous numbers of deaths were predicted, have instead had no spike in cases or deaths, in fact they are steady or declining.

Those who wish to isolate themselves are free to do so, the rest of us are ready to get back to work.
